In P.E Land our town folk are preparing for a mini-basketball tournament for the 4th and 5th graders. They have been working hard on phase 1 and 2 drills and the Stockert Youth players are very excited to showcase their skills in the tournament. In addition, we will have “Game week “(one week devoted to team games with a theme of the day/class). Our 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders will be playing games that are themed with Valentines Day, skiing, and it is Ms. Sindy`s B-day month so they will be playing a variety of her favorite games. Mini-basketballs and stickers will be awarded to players of the game or students receiving the P.E award for that class (by demonstrating the high five traits; listening, participating, preparing, sportsmanship and understanding/comprehending).
February will also include movie/sports based games (since Ms. S is a huge movie buff and sports fan) which will include some of the following; Jurassic Park tag, Asteroid aiming for Earth and Scooter Ville-this game is fan favorite and helps to learn social skills and directional patterns/cues for new drivers. In essence, the month of February will be focused on fun, fitness and full of developing fitness components (flexibility, strength, cardio, etc.) when we combine our fitness warm-ups, games, and include the sport ed. model for our B-ball Tourney!
Look out! because P.E Land is full of town games and practice for upcoming events (the fitness gram in March/April). Town folk will be working hard everyday (for thirty straight minutes) to become more fit and have some fun while we work!!!!!!! P.E game favorite voted by Mrs. Tenney`s 4th grade class; Moving goal (two players travel about the gymnasium and while taking a moveable goal)-class works as a team to score a goal from the front or back! Using two or three soccer balls this game is a great soccer review, fun and great for fitness & teamwork. Also, Mrs. Turner`s 5th grade class voted and the results were in favor of the game Ultimate Football (two teams compete utilizing passing and catching skills) only allowed 3 steps with the ball and 5 seconds must be passed to a girl before the score-another great choice for fun & fitness. All of the upper classes are very excited to be officials, statisticians, and sports announcers for the upcoming P.E land Basketball Tournament. The tournament director (Ms. Sindy) is very proud and pleased to announce that February will be filled with some outstanding basketball games for the players and is confident in the officials, statisticians, and sports announcers to fulfill their duties and manage the game!
Let`s go Lil` Bucs!!!!!!!
